Optimism

“A Fresh start”
“A New adventure”
“The best is yet to come!”

According to Trevor Moawad, in his interview with Tom Bilyeu, “if somebody says something out loud, it’s 10 times more powerful than if they think it.” He goes on to say, studies show that negative statements have a 4x multiple over positive ones!

Got some sorry negative thoughts? Crush them.
Got some positive and optimistic thoughts? Speak them.

Optimism and positive words aren’t magic, they’re just a step in the right direction.

Zero-Sum

Suppose there is only one well in your village. It produces just enough water for your tribe with very little to spare. A rival tribe moves into your village and tries to take the water for themselves.

What do you do?
Well, it depends on what you believe. (pun intended)

If you have a scarcity mindset, you go to war over the water.
If you have an abundance mindset, you dig another well.

We often think, if I win then someone else must lose. This is absolutely true in competition sports and board games, but in life it just ain’t so. Life is a little more like golf. Did you know…the 100th ranked golfer on the money list, Charles Howell III, made over 250k last year?

Life is not a zero-sum game.
Even if you don’t rank #1, you can still win.

See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

Deuteronomy 30:15 KJV

Time-Money-Fear

Hurry! There’s only one left at this price!

Limited time offer.
New lower price.
Fear of missing out.

The stereotypical used car salesman is a master at pressing all three buttons. That’s why you often feel a sense of remorse as you walk away with the keys.

Wouldn’t it be better if we marketed our product or service with sincerity?

We can save you time and make your work easier.
We charge a fair price and deliver a great value.
We are here if you need us. No FOMO.

We are getting more and more savvy as consumers.
We don’t like remorse and we don’t like to be lied to.

Where I Come From

My family does it like this.
My grandma taught me this.
I’ve always done it like this.

Right or wrong, it’s what we learned; the experience is real. But, an experience doesn’t always teach the truth. To a certain extent, we are all handicapped by the unfinished business floating around in our heads.

Search out the truth. Put to rest the lies, doubts, fears and insecurities. It’s your responsibility to surround yourself with people that will help you identify, confront, and correct. Then, help someone else do the same.

There is nothing wrong with where you come from, but don’t let it keep you from where you are going. 😉

And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

Deuteronomy 24:22 KJV

Position vs Status

Position is earned by practice, persistence, and patience.

Status is an artificial construct we use to rank each other.

You tell me which one is honorable.

That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren…

Deuteronomy 17:20 KJV

Inside The Box

When was the last time you saw a football player running through the stands to score? Never. Because every field has an out-of-bounds line. With that constraint in place, the only way to score is to increase your skill as a player. Life is no different.

I’m grateful for boundaries. The yellow tape on the floor, the fence around the high voltage transformer, the signs on the bathroom doors, and the principles I was taught as a child.

Boundaries and constraints breed creativity. It’s amazing! Instead of spending our time trying to figure out where to start, we can better see our problems and available resources. Once we know the constraints of the game, we can quickly get to work on solutions.

Your next breakthrough idea is probably “inside the box”.

What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Deuteronomy 12:32 KJV

Flip Side

Good – Bad
Heads – Tails
Health – Sickness
Rich – Poor
Full – Empty
Blessing – Curse

Sometimes we don’t get to choose a side, but we always get to choose our attitude and actions.

Be encouraged, there is a flip side. 😉

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

Deuteronomy 11:26 KJV

Say WHAT?

Speaking negative things about ourselves gains immediate attention.

I’m not pretty…. Honey, yes you are!
I never win… Sure you can keep trying!
I’m so fat… Come on man, you are just big.
I’ll never find a good job… Sure you can.
I’m always broke… I’m sorry.
I’m stupid… Are you?
I can’t start a business…. Oh.
I have terrible ideas… OK

Soon people stop giving attention and all you have are your words.
THE DANGER… negative words can actually become WHO YOU ARE!

Your words are life.
Repeated words get written in the program of your subconscious.
Your subconscious mind makes tiny decisions for you all day, every day.
The compounding effect of these decisions will transform your life. (GOOD or BAD)

Your words are the arrows.
Your goals are the targets.
Your subconscious mind is the bow.

You must be intentional about what you put in your subconscious mind.
Daily affirmations and goals are a great place to start.

Stories

Facts, points, lists, procedures, and stories. All have their place, but one of them is king.

Blogs, PodCasts and YouTube channels are increasing at exponential rates. The opportunity to teach and spread your message has never been greater or easier. You can spin up a YouTube channel in an afternoon and post your first video using a cell phone! But what message did you give your kids today? How about your spouse? Your friends?

I spoke yesterday with my long time friend, Albert Morrissette. He called to congratulate me on finally launching the SignPositive – YouTube channel. We were catching up and talking about our families and kids. He told me that one of his boys was pursuing the management training program, and a long time employee called him up just to tell him what a well rounded and respectable young man he had raised. That his son was doing the family proud! THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!

Albert and his wife Sheila have invested time, love, money, and if I know Albert – a swift kick in the shorts when necessary. They did not give their children a list of instructions to follow…they gave them examples and stories they could believe in. They told their children they not only could be great but that they WOULD be GREAT. Looks like that investment is already starting to pay off.

The most effective leaders open doors.
The most effective leaders build foundations.
The most effective leaders tell stories.
The most effective leaders start at home.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: [7] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 KJV

Repetition

There is a pattern in the old testament…. REPETITION.

If you can show me a place where people need information and instruction, I’ll show you a place that needs repetition. You can express your message with the coolest graphics and plaster them on every wall in your facility only to find they quickly fade into the background. The “2 Second Lean” guy, Paul Akers doesn’t even allow posters of his teaching in his business. This forces his people to memorize the content and really embody the message.
